About

Many of us will one day find ourselves dealing with experiences we can't handle on our own. We keep running away from emotions like fear and guilt, or from feelings in our bodies. And eventually, we can barely manage our day-to-day lives for all the time we spend running away from everything in the world that makes these problems worse.

With my psychoanalytic approach to talk therapy, I will help you to see what you are running away from, how you do it, and why. As young children, our minds already began to form fixed patterns for coping with painful experiences. As adults, we usually end up following those same old patterns whenever we feel badly, without even knowing that we are doing it. I will help you to understand your patterns, to see why they once served you, and why they now present problems for you. Armed with those insights, you can begin to live the life you really want, with less fear.

I am a licensed psychoanalyst currently in an advanced stage of training at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research (IPTAR). I hold a doctorate in philosophy with a specialization in language informed by linguistics. My academic background has sensitized me to the importance of words and language in people's emotional suffering and their difficulties in life. Our habitual ways of speaking hold clues that will give us a solid basis for examining the old patterns that are keeping you unhappy.

Often, our most sensitive and difficult experiences are revealed in certain words and fixed ways of speaking that we use again and again. These words might come out of our family histories or other parts of our background. In our sessions, I will give you the space and time in which to speak out loud without being boxed in or judged. Through this work, you can access thoughts, feelings and desires within yourself that might surprise you. When this happens, you will gain a fresh perspective on who you are and who you want to become.

Many of us at some juncture of our lives find ourselves beset by feelings that we cannot bear or understand. We keep running away from anxious, depressive, or perhaps guilty feelings, until we can barely manage our day-to-day lives.

FAQ’s
How long is a session? Are you conducting in person sessions?

The length of psychotherapy session is either 45 minutes or 50 minutes. Please discuss this with your therapist, but both arrangements are acceptable.

We offer both—in-person, and virtual treatment. Please discuss your preference with your therapist.

How often should I see my therapist?

The frequency of work is determined between you and your therapist. However, we do believe a higher frequency has an important effect on the outcome of the treatment. Most of our therapists work with their patients at more than once-a-week frequency in psychotherapy. However, if you are in psychoanalytic treatment, the frequency is at least 4 times (sometimes we offer 3 times) a week.

How long does the therapy last?

Believe it or not, this is by far the most common question we are asked. There is a famous quote from Freud, “Our answer is like the answer given by the Philosopher to the Wayfarer in Aesop's fable. When the Wayfarer asked how long a journey lay ahead, the Philosopher merely answered ‘Walk!’” The duration of treatment depends on the individual circumstances. Therefore, he says, “[T]he question as to the probable duration of a treatment is almost unanswerable.” At TheraBridge we hold true to Freud’s word, “Walk!” We help our patients walk the path and over the bridge towards a future where new memories and new experiences bring happiness and joy.

Is my information confidential?

Yes, your information is kept confidential. In case we need to coordinate care with other medical professionals including your psychiatrist, we will obtain your consent, though the exchange of patient information amongst medical providers is considered HIPAA compliant.

What kind of therapy do you provide?

At TheraBridge, all our clinicians are trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy or psychoanalysis.
